Will the Power Chisel Attachment fit my angle grinder?
The Power Chisel Attachment is designed to fit most 4" (100mm), or 4-1/2" (115mm) angle grinders. Read the following instructions, and use the diagram at left to check your grinder's measurements to ensure that the Attachment will fit.
Collar Mounted: Measure your angle grinder's collar. It should measure 1-1/2" (38mm) to 1-3/4" (44mm) and have a minimum height of 8mm (see illustration at left).
For Makita grinder spindles in the USA & Canada made after Jan 2000, replace the locking nut (part 13) with an M10 x 1.25mm nut available from automotive accessory stores.
Grinders with a 5/8" spindle require Arbortech PCH050 5/8" Cam.
Plate Mounted: If your grinder does not have a collar, check the dimensions shown at left to see if the MIN017 adaptor is suitable for your grinder.

Can I put my Power Chisel attachment onto a pre-assembled Mini-Grinder I recently purchased?
Yes! but you will void the warranty on the Mini-Grinder Pre-Assembled power tool if it is removed, the warranty runs for 12 months, so we do not recommend this. However, it is up to the customer if they wish to void there warranty!
If you wish to replace the pre-assmebled Mini-Grinder with the Power Chisel attachment you will need to purchase the Universal adaptor plate (MIN017) as the adaptor plate that comes with the Mini-Grinder power tool is not designed for the Power Chisel. Follow the instructions which come with the MIN017.
How do I attach the Power Chisel to my angle grinder?
There are two methods for attaching the Mini-Grinder to a 4" or 4 1/2" angle grinder.
1. The collar fitting method
The collar section of the Power Chisel is fitted onto and over the collar of the angle grinder and then tightened in place with the Clamping Bolt.
2. No collar method
If the angle grinder does not have a collar then the MIN017 Universal Adaptor Plate may be compatible with your grinder. Click here for notes on "will the Mini Grinder Attachment fit my angle grinder".
The Adaptor Plate is screwed into place on the angle grinder and the Power Chisel is then attached to the plate with four screw bolts through the Power Chisel Arm.
My angle grinder collar is too small?
My angle grinder collar is too small and the Power Chisel collar will not clamp tightly enough?
There are two solutions for this problem.
1. Use either a 0.5mm or 1mm thick emery cloth to increase the diameter of the grinder collar.
2. If the grinder collar is considerably smaller use part number MIN015 collar enlarging adaptor, this enlarges the size of the grinder collar considerably.
I can't get the chisel to lock into position!
When inserting chisels into the extension arm press the chisel locking button down, then insert the chisel with the clamping groove of the chisel on the opposite side to the locking button.
The chisel should snap firmly into place.
Note: When using new chisels for the first time, wipe off the sticky coating.
When I turn on the grinder the chisel does not move!
Only when the chisel tip is pressed into the timber does the striking end of the chisel contact the cam. Everytime the cam revolves it strikes the end of the chisel pushing it forward up to .5mm. If slight pressure (or gentle pressure) is applied to the tip of the chisel, each strike can result in a very small movement of the chisel edge through the wood.
The Power Chisel can be used aggresively by applying full (but sensible) pressure to the chisel edge or very gently by barely applying pressure. In this way one can work very quickly to remove waste material with a large gouge fitted, or very gently for delicate work with a small (or large!) chisel fitted.
My chisel is wearing at the anvil!
The cam has not been lubricated enough, therefore the end of the chisel will over heat, loose it's tempered nature and then start to wear rapidly. Under these circumstances a chisel can be destroyed in a short period of time.
It is very important that the felt reservoir (small piece of felt fixed against the revolving cam) is maintained with a drop of oil every half an hour of use, more if you are using a large chisel in hard wood.
Where do I place the oil to lubricate the cam?
The chisel anvils must always be lubricated. Do this via the lubricating port.
The cam must be kept lubricated at all times, if not the end of the chisel known as the Anvil will over heat, loosing it's tempered nature and then start to wear rapidly.

Note: Chisels are extremely sharp and will become hot with prolonged use. Please use caution when handling chisels.
Warning: Always ensure that chisels are sharp! Blunt chisels will not cut and will wear the tool prematurely.
Can I use other brands of lubrication oils?
No! the Lubricating oil supplied with the Power Chisel is specially formulated for the high temperature and pressure applications.
