Will the Power Chisel Attachment fit my angle grinder?

The Power Chisel Attachment is designed to fit most 4" (100mm), or 4-1/2" (115mm) angle grinders.

The diagram below identify the dimensions you grinder needs to fit the Mini grinder attachment.

There are generally two types of grinders on the market.

1. Collar mounted auxiliary guard.
2. Bolt on type auxiliary guard.

Collar mounted auxiliary guard: Measure your angle grinder's collar. It should measure 1-1/2" (38mm) to 1-3/4" (44mm) and have a minimum height of 8mm (see figure at right). The collar section of the Power Chisel is fitted onto and over the collar of the angle grinder and then tightened in place with the Clamping Bolt provided.

Plate mountedauxiliary guard: If your grinder does not have a collar, check the dimensions shown in the figure above, to see if the MIN.FG.017 Universal adaptor kit is suitable for your grinder. Remove the auxiliary guard and screw MIN.FG.017 adaptor plate into the auxiliary guard bolt holes of the angle grinder. Power Chisel is then attached to the plate with the four screw bolts provide through the Mini-Grinder Housing.

Grinders with a 5/8" spindle require Arbortech MIN.FG.013:Mini-Grinder 5/8" Spindle adaptor kit.

My angle grinder collar is too small and the Mini Grinder collar will not clamp tightly enough?

To slightly increase the diameter of the grinder collar use either the .5mm or 1mm thick emery cloth.

If the grinder collar is considerably smaller use collar enlarging adaptor part number MIN.FG.015. This enlarges the size of the grinder collar to fit the Mini-grinder attachment securely.

Can I put my Power Chisel attachment onto a pre-assembled Mini-Grinder I recently purchased?

Yes, but you will void the Pre-Assembled power tools 12 warranty on the Mini-Grinder if removed.

To change the pre-assembled Mini-Grinder to the Power Chisel attachment you will need to purchase the Universal adaptor plate (MIN.FG.017) The adaptor plate is suited to both the Power Chisel and the Mini-Grinder.

Why won't the chisel lock into position?

When inserting chisels into the extension arm press the chisel

locking button down, then insert the chisel with the clamping groove of the chisel on the opposite side to the locking button. The chisel should snap firmly into place.

Note: When using new chisels for the first time, clean away the sticky coating.

When I turn on the grinder the chisel does not move.

Only when the chisel tip is pressed into the timber does the striking end of the chisel contact the cam.

As the cam revolves it strikes the end of the chisel pushing it forward. Depending on the amount of pressure, each strike can result in either a very small movement for light carving or a deep gouge in the wood.

My chisel is wearing at the anvil!

The cam has not been lubricated enough, causing the end of the chisel to over heat, causing the chisel end to loose its tempered nature and start to wear rapidly. Using the Power Chisel with no or the wrong oil can cause premature failure of the Power Chisel tool.

· It is very important that the felt reservoir (small piece of felt fixed against the revolving cam) is maintained with a drop of oil every 15 minutes of use. We recommend you apply the oil more frequently if you are using a large chisel in hard wood.

Where do I place the oil to lubricate the cam?

The chisel anvil must always be lubricated. The lubrication point is located in heel of the Power Chisel.(see at right)
The cam must be kept lubricated at all times.

Note: Chisels are extremely sharp and will become hot with prolonged use. Please use caution when handling chisels.

Warning: Always ensure that chisels are sharp! Blunt chisels will not cut and will wear the tool prematurely.

Can I use other brands of lubrication oils?

No, the Lubricating oil supplied with the Power Chisel is specially formulated for the high temperature and pressure applications.
