Originally in the optical profession, Luke's love of nature and outdoors led him to follow his passion with wood and sculpting. Early experience with a wood craftsman showed him the potential of wood that had been crafted using fine finishing techniques.
Drawing inspiration from the woods movement and structure, the effects of fire and nature are additional elements that contribute to the creation of each sculpture. The focus is on natural themes with Luke's repertoire crossing from traditional to modern.
All the wood Luke uses are hard woods unique to Western Australia and have been collected from as far as the deserts of the north to the bush land of the south. Luke's passion for wood and design inspires him to bring out the natural beauty of each piece.
"I've been using the power chisel for the last three years, I find the chisel to be very receptive and less strenuous than traditional methods. The power chisel's ideal use for me is it's volume and accuracy achieved for detailed carving and sculpture. With the variable chisel designs it provides an efficient and manipulative form of carving leaving a clean outcome for the finishing processes."
