Clare Nicholson
BA. BVA Hons.GradDipEd

Clare Nicholson was born in Sussex, England and migrated to Australia in 1989 with her young family. Settling in Mullumbimby near Byron Bay, Northern NSW, she graduated from Southern Cross University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000, Visual Arts Honours degree in 2002 and the Graduate Diploma of Education in 2009. With a driving passion to explore the representation of ideas through aesthetics, Clare is not afraid to push boundaries by working both two and three dimensionally in order to recreate a new vision or a new way of seeing.

Clare's contemporary paintings are underpinned by theory and challenge mainstream thought regarding cultural issues such as biotechnoloy, the domination of the environment or issues relating to the historical invisibility or misrepresentation of women's art.

Enjoying the challenge of learning new skills, Clare side-stepped her easel a few years ago in order to take up wood carving, joinery and saddlery making and now combines her painting art practice by sculpting bespoke, heirloom ro
cking horses on carved bow rockers for children and art lovers alike. Each horse takes more than five months to create.
